Car bomb hits Karrada ice cream shop, 13 martyred

At least 13 people are reported martyred and 24 injured after a car bomb exploded in Baghdad’s Karrada district in the early hours of Tuesday morning local time.

ISIL car bomb also wounds at least 30 people as they gathered to enjoy a Ramadan evening after breaking their fast.

The bomb targeted diners breaking fast at a popular outdoor eating area of the upper middle class district.

The Muslim world is currently observing Ramadan, a month-long festival when people refrain from eating between sunrise and sundown, often coming together to eat at night.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIL, also known as ISIS) Amaq website said the suicide bomber targeted a “gathering of Shia”.
