MWM delegation meets Lahore Police chief against restrictions on azadari

A delegation led by Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Punjab’s secretary general Allama Syed Mubarak Mousavi called on Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore to register protest against unjustifiable restrictions imposed by Police on azadari in Lahore.

The MWM delegation made it clear that azadari (sacred mourning) is fundamental human and civil right of Shia Muslims in accordance with Constitution of Pakistan. He said nobody could deny this religious and cultural right of Shia citizens of Pakistan.

Allama Mubarak Mousavi warned that Shia Muslims would have to come out on streets to protest if the police don’t stop harassing law-abiding Shia Muslims/azadars, which the cops were perpetrating at the behest of the banned outfits hatemongering fanatics and extremists and their patrons.

He said that police has nothing to do with those Majalis which are held inside houses. He cited that during the tenure of PML-N government, around 1000 FIRs were registered in 10 days and most of them were aimed at punishing those who didn’t follow the time limits set by the administration. He said this was not the crime if Majlis continues beyond the stipulated time since it is related to those organizing the event and the participants.

Syed Asad Abbas Naqvi, Syed Khurram Naqvi, Rana Majid, Majid Kazmi of MWM, former chairman IO Hasnain Jafar Zaidi, Afsar Raza Khan and Sheikh Imran were also part of the delegation.
The delegates also discussed the security measures and other matters relating to smooth holding of Muharram Majalis.
