The Sindh government has decided to suspend the internet and cellular services in different cities from September 19 to 21 as a security measure during Ashura.
The services will remain inactive between 7am and midnight in various cities, including Karachi.
The provincial government has also requested the federal interior ministry and PTCL to suspend mobile phone networks and the internet in different timings.
The services are partially suspended every year in several cities as part of security arrangements for majalis and mourning processions in Muharram.
Cellphone service is working in Hyderabad, on the highway and M9, in Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Defence and Clifton.
In some areas of PECHS there is no phone service, while it has been completely blocked in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and near Gora Qabristan. Service is working on Sharae Faisal till Nursery.
Jauhar, PECHS and MA Jinnah Road are expected to be highly affected.
The services are also likely to be closed in other major cities including Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta.
The services are also closed in sensitive cities including D.I.Khan, Shikarpur, Mirpur Khas, Larkana, Multan and other parts of the country.
