Jafria Alliance Pakistan (JAP) chief and former senator Allama Abbas Kumaili passed away after prolonged illness in Karachi on Saturday.
The 70-year-old prominent religious scholar, a diabetic patient, was being treated at a private hospital for cardiac complications, According to Family Sources.
Kumaili also used Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen’s (MWM) platform to preach interfaith harmony among all Islamic schools of thought.
His 42-year-old son, Allama Ali Akbar Kumaili, was shot dead in Bhangoria Goth, along with his guard on September 6, 2014.
Allama Abbas Kumaili laid to rest after funeral prayers in Karachi where he passed away after protracted ailment under treatment at a hospital.
Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen deputy secretary general Allama Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi led the funeral prayers of Allama Kumaili.
Sindh Governor Dr Imran Ismail represented federation of Pakistan at the funeral prayers.
Leader of the Opposition Sindh Assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi represented Opposition and PTI. Pak Sarzameen Party chairman Mustafa Kamal and PPP leader Waqar Mehdi also attended the funeral prayers.
Senior scholar Allama Mirza Yousuf Hussain, MWM leaders Allama Baqir Abbas Zaidi, Ali Hussain Naqvi, Allama Sadiq Jafari and Allama Mubashir attended namaz-e-janaza.
According to Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen’s senior leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, the deceased was well-read and a season politician. He said Kumaili preached the subject of peace to the people of the country.
