China reaffirms opposition to US’ sanctions on Iran, interference in country’s affairs

China has voiced its strong opposition to “illegal and unilateral” sanctions against Iran, and “gross interference” in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic and other countries in the region.

Addressing a regular press conference on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said Beijing “firmly opposes illegal unilateral sanctions against Iran, political manipulation on human rights and other issues, and gross interference in the internal affairs of Iran and other regional countries.”

He added that China will continue to firmly support the talks between Iran and the five remaining signatories to the 2015 nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the Austrian capital of Vienna aimed at securing the removal of all sanctions that the United States has imposed on Tehran after its unilateral withdrawal from the deal.
