China Voices Support for Iran’s Peaceful Nuclear Pursuits and Diplomatic Engagement

China respects Iran’s right to peacefully utilize nuclear energy and supports its efforts to engage in dialogue with all stakeholders, including the United States, to protect its legitimate rights, said Chinese envoy Li Song.

Speaking after a joint meeting in Vienna with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, Iran’s ambassador Reza Najafi, and Russia’s envoy Mikhail Ulyanov, Li—China’s permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)—emphasized Beijing’s commitment to diplomatic and political solutions regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

Li reiterated China’s support for the IAEA’s constructive role in facilitating a peaceful resolution and stressed the importance of continued engagement between Iran, the IAEA, and the international community.

During the meeting, senior diplomats from China, Russia, and Iran agreed that mutual respect and diplomatic engagement remain the most viable and effective path forward. They recognized the IAEA and its leadership as essential to supporting a diplomatic approach and contributing positively to resolving the nuclear issue.

Li also expressed China’s readiness to strengthen coordination with Iran, Russia, and the IAEA to generate constructive momentum in ongoing diplomatic efforts. He noted that both China and Russia back Iran’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog.

Reaffirming Iran’s stated commitment to non-proliferation, the Chinese envoy emphasized that Beijing acknowledges Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology and encourages continued dialogue and negotiation to uphold regional and international stability.
