Iran calls for emergency UNSC session over American attacks on nuclear sites

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has held the United States and the Israeli regime responsible for Sunday’s attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, urging the UN Council (UNSC) to hold an emergency session to address the unprovoked aggression.

In a letter addressed to the UN Security Council on Sunday, Amir Saeid Iravani denounced the attacks as “deliberate and unlawful” aggression targeting peaceful nuclear sites, and said it had been perpetrated by the US “in full coordination” with the Israeli regime.

Drawing “urgent attention” on the part of the UN Security Council members to the matter at hand, the letter warned that such aggression amounts to “serious threat to regional and international peace and security.”

He commented on the nature of the coordination between Washington and Tel Aviv, noting that the duo had carried out the assaults “simultaneously and in a premeditated manner.”

Iravani noted the attacks that had targeted the Islamic Republic’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, were conducted “without any prior provocation,” with US President Donald Trump brazenly taking responsibility for them.

The diplomat clarified that the facilities had been struck, despite having been under uninterrupted supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The attacks targeted uranium enrichment sites in north-central and central Iran in early Sunday.
