Syrian Rebel Leader Reportedly Seeks Deal with Israel, US Involvement Claimed

Syrian rebel leader Abu Muhammad al-Julani has reportedly expressed a desire to join an agreement establishing friendly relations with Israel, according to US Congresswoman Marlin Stutzman. Speaking to Israeli television channel I24, Stutzman revealed that al-Julani made this demand during a recent meeting in Damascus.
Stutzman, along with fellow US Representative Cory Mills, reportedly traveled to the Syrian capital this week for discussions with the controversial rebel leader. Mills confirmed to the New York Times that he intends to convey al-Julani’s message to US President Donald Trump.
According to the I24 report, al-Julani’s condition for pursuing friendly ties with Israel involves a cessation of Israeli military strikes on Syrian territory and a commitment to preventing the fragmentation of the country. The Syrian rebel leader also reportedly called for an agreement with Tel Aviv that would guarantee the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Syrian land.
Furthermore, al-Julani has allegedly requested the United States to lift its sanctions on Syria. However, Congresswoman Stutzman stated that Washington has laid out preconditions for any such move, including the establishment of “good relations” with Israel, the United States, and other nations in the Middle East.
The timing of this report coincides with claims made by the then-extremist US President Donald Trump during a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Trump reportedly asserted that numerous countries were eager to join the “Abraham Accords,” a series of normalization agreements with Israel, and anticipated further expansion of these pacts in the near future.
