UN Security Council President Urges Calm Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

Evangelos Sekeris, the President of the United Nations Security Council for the month and Greece’s Permanent Representative to the UN, has expressed concern over the escalating situation between India and Pakistan. Addressing a press conference in New York, Ambassador Sekeris said the Council is “monitoring closely” and emphasized the need for restraint from both sides.

“We are following the developments very carefully,” said Sekeris in response to a question about the growing tension. “Hopefully, efforts for de-escalation will be helpful, but we are prepared to deal with it, of course.”

He also expressed hope that the 15-member Security Council would convene “sooner rather than later” to discuss the matter formally.

The situation between the two South Asian nuclear-armed neighbors has drawn international attention, with calls for diplomatic dialogue to prevent further escalation.
